Can Acupuncture help me? How long till I see results?
The number of Acupuncture treatments needed before a patient feels the benefits can vary widely depending on several factors, including the individual's health condition, the severity of the symptoms, how long the condition has been present, the individual's response to Acupuncture, and the treatment frequency. Acupuncture is a safe and complementary therapy for most health conditions. Acupuncture can usually reduce most symptoms a patient is experiencing. About 80% of Dr. Amanda’s patients feel some improvement in symptoms with just one visit. The patient will need to be seen once a week to start; once the symptoms have decreased she will then recommend coming every other week to make sure the body can stay in its renewed state over a longer period of time without acupuncture. Dr. Amanda loves a challenge but encourages her patients to come see her sooner than later. Acupuncture is a preventative medicine and Dr. Amanda encourages her patients to come for wellness check-ups once every season even if that patient feels well.
What should I wear?
When attending an acupuncture session, it's best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. This allows the acupuncturist to easily access the areas they need to treat. Avoid wearing clothing that is too tight or restrictive.
Here are some specific clothing suggestions:
Tops: T-shirts, tank tops, or loose-fitting blouses are ideal.
Bottoms: Sweatpants, yoga pants, or loose-fitting shorts or skirts are comfortable options.
Footwear: Be prepared to remove your shoes before getting on the treatment table.
Remember, the goal is to feel relaxed and comfortable during your treatment.
Do the needles hurt?
Do the needles hurt? The needles that are being used are very thin and often not felt or cause minimal discomfort when inserted. Please communicate with any licensed Acupuncturist if you are uncomfortable at any point; this should be a relaxing experience. Most of Dr. Amanda’s patients call it their nap time.
What should I expect during an Acupuncture session?
For each visit Dr. Amanda will sit down with you for a consultation to talk to you about your current symptoms, lifestyle, and health history. She will start the treatment by having the patient lie down on a comfortable treatment table. Thin needles will be inserted based on the diagnosis and personalized to each patient. You will rest with the needles in for at least 30 minutes. Dr. Amanda will then remove the needles and provide some recommendations for optimal results. It’s always important to drink lots of water after treatments!
Do the needles have medicine on them?
No, acupuncture needles do not have any medicine on them. They are typically made of medical grade stainless steel and are very thin, similar to a hair. The purpose of acupuncture is to stimulate specific points on the body, which can trigger the release of the body's natural healing mechanisms.
